6-Week Hybrid Pottery Wheel & Handbuilding Course
- Description
Our new 6-Week Hybrid Pottery & Handbuilding course combines the best of the wheel and hand-sculpting, guiding you through an expanded arc of creation from your first time centering clay to intentional, hand-built forms and a finished body of work you glaze yourself.
Each week builds on the last, giving you the time and technique to develop real skills across two complementary disciplines.
Week 1: Introduction to the wheel: centering clay and throwing your first cylinder.
Week 2: Trimming and refining your wheel-thrown pieces, followed by a second session of throwing.
Week 3: Trimming your remaining wheel work alongside an introduction to core handbuilding techniques, expanding what you can build and how you think about form.
Week 4: Handbuilding: Slab construction, pinch pots, and coil methods to create forms impossible to make on the wheel alone.
Week 5: Detail work: Greenware carving, sgrafitto, slip trailing, texture, adding small decorative elements, refining rims and surfaces & smoothing.
Week 6: Glazing: Where your entire collection finds its color and character. You'll learn to use underglaze, learn advanced techniques to layer and glaze your pots before your work heads into the final kiln firing.
Our instructors guide you at every step, so you're supported whether it's your first time working with clay or you're looking to bridge the gap between wheel work and sculpting.
All clay, tools, glazes, and firings are included.
We provide unlimited clay throughout the course, and you may select seven pieces for final firing.
Our 6-week classes follow a structured, iterative schedule where each session builds directly on the last.
Please ensure you're able to attend all six sessions before registering.
