Our Community

Studio Ceramica is an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming space, and the community that gathers here is the heart of everything we do. We're proudly 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusive and have a gender-neutral restroom so that every guest feels comfortable and at home while creating with us. We're a small independent studio, built by hand and run with care, and the atmosphere inside these walls is something we protect closely. Every person who walks through the door helps shape it. Whether it's your first time at the wheel or you've been throwing for years, you belong here.

Respect for One Another

We ask that you treat instructors, staff, and fellow makers with kindness, patience, and respect. Everyone in the room is at a different point in their practice, and we all started somewhere. Some people find the wheel quickly, others take time, and both are exactly as it should be. Support one another, share the space generously, and give newer makers the room to learn without pressure. Studio Ceramica is a place to slow down and create, not to compete. Any form of violence, harassment, or discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and we reserve the right to ask anyone acting unsafely, disruptively, or disrespectfully to leave the studio.

A Calm and Considerate Space

Part of what makes our classes feel the way they do is the atmosphere. We ask that you help us keep noise levels considerate so everyone can focus, listen to instruction, and enjoy the quiet rhythm of working with clay. Silence your phone where you can, be mindful of those around you, and let the room settle into the pace of the craft. Many of our makers come here to unplug, and a calm space is something we build together.

Respect for the Studio

Our tools, wheels, and materials are shared by every maker who comes through our doors. Please handle them with care, use them only for their intended purpose, and follow your instructor's guidance on how to treat them. Clean up after yourself where asked, return tools to their place, and help us keep the studio the kind of space you'd want to walk into. Caring for the equipment keeps it working well, keeps our classes affordable, and keeps the experience good for the maker who comes after you.

Following Instruction

Your instructor's guidance exists for two reasons: your safety and the quality of your work. Please follow it closely, particularly around the wheels, sharp tools, and any restricted equipment, which may only be used with a staff member's direct supervision and consent. Pottery involves moving parts, heat, and heavy materials, and a little attention goes a long way. If something isn't working, feels wrong, or you simply have a question, tell a staff member. We're here to help, and no question is too small.

Health, Safety, and Comfort

Working with clay is hands-on, physical, and wonderfully messy. Before your class begins, please let a staff member know about any medical condition, injury, or allergy that might affect your participation, so we can help you take part safely and comfortably. If at any point you need to step away, rest, or ask for an adjustment, please do. We would always rather you were comfortable than pushing through. Your wellbeing in the studio matters to us.

The Nature of the Craft

Pottery is equal parts art and science, and part of its magic is that it can't be fully controlled. Pieces shift, warp, or crack as they dry and fire, and glazes can surprise you in ways both lovely and unexpected. We handle every piece with great care, but we can't guarantee how a given work will emerge from the kiln. We hope you'll come to see this as part of the beauty of the process rather than a flaw in it. Some of the most memorable pieces are the ones the clay had a say in.

Making It Yours

Above all, we hope you arrive ready to be present. Classes are small by design, and part of what makes them work is that you give yourself over to the process a little. Be patient, with the clay and with yourself. Pottery rewards patience far more than perfection, and the goal here was never a flawless pot. It was an afternoon well spent, your hands in the clay, your mind somewhere quieter than usual. By creating with us, you help keep Studio Ceramica a space where everyone can unplug, create, and connect. We can't wait to welcome you to the studio and share in the joy of working with clay.
